Tips for choosing your wedding photographer

There are many wedding photographers out there, believe us we’ve looked. With so many people out there selling what appears to be the same thing, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

However, wedding photographers are not equal and it’s important that you choose the one that suits you best. Here are some things to consider when choosing the wedding photographers that will capture your once-in-a-lifetime day.

It’s important to look at different photographer’s portfolios and to get a sense of the style of photos they shoot. There are many different styles out there (in fact we have an article on that very subject) and you should choose the style that resonates with you the best.

Some photographers shoot dramatically styled portraits, some have a fashion magazine inspired look, while others prefer to document the beautiful, natural unposed moments. No style is better than another and it all comes down to which one you prefer.

Your wedding photographers will be with you for most of the wedding day, and possibly even before then if you booked an engagement shoot. It’s very important that you feel comfortable and relaxed around them otherwise you’ll likely end up with photos of you looking anxious and nervous.

Chat with your photographers beforehand, read their bios, and meet with them or arrange a video call so that you can assess how comfortable you feel around them.

It almost doesn’t need saying - your photographers need to fall within your budget.

However, after the wedding day is over all you have left of the day is the photos, so you really want the best photos possible. Splurging a little to get the photographers you really really like is absolutely worth it, as you’ll end up looking at those photos again and again and remembering the great memories from the day.
