Our honeymoon in Mauritius

Vanessa and I tied the knot on 28 April this year (2018). After the stress of planning a wedding from the other side of the country (we were in Cape Town at the time, but were having the wedding in Gauteng to accommodate most of our family), and planning a move from Cape Town to KZN, we decided that we needed something relaxing.

We both enjoy travelling, and we wanted our honeymoon to be someplace quiet, close to a beach, and fully catered for. After searching through travel brochures from Bali, Seychelles, and various other lovely places, we decided on a small boutique hotel in Mauritius that offered an all-inclusive package.

On arrival we were offered a drink, and shown our room - a comfortable space with a balcony and a sea view. The resort had kindly kept the kitchen open a little later so that we could still have dinner, and after that we had a drink at the bar and collapsed into bed.

The next few days were very similar: we slept as late as we could without missing breakfast, lazed on the beach, by the pool, or read in our room during the day, ate great food and drank delicious mocktails.

Eventually we did go out and explore a little. On one morning we did an undersea walk where they put a big, heavy helmet on you and you literally get to walk on the seafloor observing various sea creatures. We returned exhausted but with great big smiles on our faces.

On another day we took a tour of the southern part of the island, where we got to do some shopping, drive around a nature reserve, see a dormant volcano, and visit a Hindu temple.

The last days whizzed by far too quickly, but by the end of our 7-night stay we were relaxed, ready to head home and start our new life together in Kloof, KwaZulu Natal.
